Winemaking is a series of processes - from growing wine grapes (viticulture) to harvesting, vineyard management and wine production. Our qualifications will set you up for taking on these roles with practical and work-ready skills.

Our flexible delivery options allow you to fit your study around your work or life. You can learn at our Cromwell campus and embrace the chance to use our nursery and ten-hectare crop production facility. Or develop your expertise through our online or work-based learning options if you currently work in this sector. The great thing is you can choose the options that best suit you.   

Start with a horticulture certificate or jump straight into our diploma in wine grape growing – either way, we will help you develop the skills needed to build a career in the wine industry 

Winemaking qualifications

Horticulture

Develop your green thumb skills and get paid for doing what you love. Based at our Cromwell campus, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge that horticulturists need when employed in orchards, vineyards, nurseries or any other major commercial operation. Embrace the opportunity to use our campus nursery, and our ten-hectare crop production facility.

Horticulture

This programme is for those already working in the fruit production or viticulture industry. A 50/50 mix of theory and practical, you’ll learn online whilst using your workplace as a setting to practice your developing skills. Courses include Soils and Water, Plant Science, Seasonal Tasks, Communication, and Pests, Weeds and Agrichemicals. If you start our part-time programme in 2022, your tuition fees will be paid until 31 December 2022 due to the Government's Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund (TTAF).
